Morgan is a Senior at New York University. This blog is related to her final project for a seminar that considers the topics of class, race, education, and the community of New York City. As a 21 year old undergraduate student, she regards this blog as a litmus test of people in regards to the value of their undergraduate education.
Proposal:
I want to compare and contrast what people think of a college education in Harlem, the Upper East Side, and in Washington Square Park. Based on my observations, I want to explore the currency of an undergraduate education and what people think it is worth. An undergraduate degree is considered the minimum amount of education necessary to become a member of the middle class. While I think a college degree is necessary, I feel like it is not worth as much as ten or even five years ago. Since education is becoming so stratified in America, I think I will find profound differences in opinion in the value of a college degree among these three populations.
